Hi Olivier

I followed your tutorial but ran into a problem. Maybe you can help me out.

I got some responses to my thread yet, but none really helped. I hope that you as the auditor of the tutorial have any idea.

Hi all

I am not sure if this is the right forum, but i give it a try. My problem is more in regards to openchange.

The backend is an ubuntu 12.04 server with a Samba, openchange, sogo installation followed the manual from

I don't want to use the igestis tool, so I created a Samba4 user, an openchange user and provided this user with a mailbox.

On my notebook I have Win8 64 bit with outlook 2013 installed. Whenever I try to connect to the openchange server it doesn't work. The weird thing is, that when I try rpc in the webbrowser as described in the manual it only works with Netscape but not with IE.

I have no idea what went wrong, that is the reason why I don't post any configs or logs, because I have no idea where to look at.

I would appreciate any hint.

Mit freundlichem Gruß

I'm not sure OpenChange can work on a separate server than Sogo. To secure your installation, you could installation imap+smtp on a separate server even I don't recommand as you will probably loose some performances.
Of course, your installation NEEDS a firewall so then just open port 80 and 443 as this is enought to use Outlook and Sogo webmail (and eventually port 25).
About samba, you have to use 4.0.1 that is present in inverse repo, it shouldn't be to different with 4.0.6.
For about the tutorial, you can read the Outlook configuration under "First account creation" in the tutorial.
Best regards.

Hi Olivier,
dont you think its better to install samba+openchange separate from sogo+imap+smtp?because if you gonna give your users external access from internet to their email accounts via sogo web interface its not good idea to public local users data(Active Directory) on a server that you want to public it on internet, yes you can use firewall to filter access but i decide to install them on two separate server.
On the other hand samba version on inverse repo are old and configuration from samba4-alpha to 4.0.6 has changed TOO Much.
Even not bad to add a section for setting up thunderbird or outlook !

To all my readers,
Some of you already or would like to follow my tutorial here
But for your information, I discovered that the system is much more stable with Cyrus Imap instead the actual Dovecot. Probably I miss something in my configuration as OpenChange needs to have ACL and other functionnalities to work.
So be patient, I will made soon an update about my tutorial.
Thanks for your visits.

Hi all,
I just finished to write a tutorial in order to install Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo on Ubuntu/Debian, available at
(only available in french yet).
Basically, you can build your self a ZEG machine, but with Share/Domain Controller working, withtout OpenLDAP (only one directory on Samba4), and simplified way to create users. Also I only use packages provided by to install the softwares.
I'll very happy if you can test and let comments.
Best regards.
